Battery Park City
History:
By the late 1950s, this port area of lower Manhattan, called the Greek quarter, was filled up with ruined shipping piers. Therefore the landfill proposal was offered in the early 1960s, and then the landfill was completed in 1976, made from dirt and rocks excavated during the construction of the World Trade Center, as well as from sand from Staten Island.
Today, Battery Park City consists of two sections, the World Financial Center Complex (the Northern section) and the Southern section, which contains Gateway Plaza and the Rector Place apartment Buildings, among other condominium buildings.

Secret Garden at St. Luke’s Church
History:
The Church Of Saint Luke in the Fields is founded in 1820 by some residents of Greenwich. The church and its garden used be at the edge of the Hudson River, often accessed by boat, until Manhattan was expanded by landfills. After St. Luke’s became a chapel of Trinity Church, they constructed a gymnasium, a school building and a playground to serve the increasing number of neighbors. Also the garden was added in 1956.

Description:

Walking Tour Suggestions:
From Trinity Church on Wall Street, turn right onto Broad Street, NYSE will be on your left.
Continue down Broad St, turn left on Pearl Street. Fraunces Tavern will be on your right.
Continue down Pearl Street, stopping to see at Hanover Park. Take a right turn down Wall Street, then turn left to South Street Sea Port.
Fun Fact: Alexander Hamilton (the guy on the $10 bill) is buried here, among other historical figures.
